Freezer Tips

Warner's Taste Club Warner's Taste Club
If you’ve not made much use of your freezer before, now is the time to make it work for you. It can be so easy to throw random bits of food in the freezer thinking you’ll use it for a later date, only to find it 6 months or a year down the line, looking quite unappetising!

Over the next three months, your freezer is going to be your best friend. Think of it like an extra store cupboard; organise and arrange it so that you have a supply of meals or ingredients that will see you through day to day.

Using your freezer wisely can help take some of the stress out of an already anxious time – here are our tips on how to get the most out of your freezer:

HOME COOKED COMFORTS

One of the best uses of your freezer is to make your own ready meals. This really is the simplest and most convenient use of your freezer storage. Next time you make a Bolognese, curry, stew, lasagne, soup, even risotto, make double or triple the amount. Portion off the leftovers into sensible meal sizes and freeze. It’s that simple! Don’t forget to write the contents on the container and the date you freeze it – it’s so easy to forget 2 months down the line!

FRESH INGREDIENTS

When you’re shopping less, it’s never been more important to write meal plans. Plan the meals you want to cook for the week and make sure you buy all the ingredients in your shop at the start of the week. Then freeze items that you need to use later in the week, whether that’s fish, meat or pastry. Defrost items in the fridge overnight before using them in your meals the following day.

SURPRISING ESSENTIALS

There are many fresh items of food that you may be surprised to know you can freeze. Milk, cheese, butter, cream, eggs – these are all freezable and handy to have in an emergency if you can’t get to the shops. Herbs, berries, and vegetables – these can all be frozen and used as and when you need them.

FROZEN FAVOURITES

As well as home-made meals, it’s always comforting to have a supply of frozen favourites in the freezer. Fishfingers, chicken nuggets, frozen chips, pizza, peas – these are all freezer staples that can be relied upon when you just want a quick and comforting feed.

RESTAURANT-STYLE MEALS

For those days when you haven’t got time to batch cook your own meals but you want something nourishing and wholesome, take a look at the frozen meals in the freezer cabinets. COOK is the pioneer of quality frozen foods and has an impressive range on offer. Each meal is hand-prepared by a trained chef – pop one or two into your basket on your next shop and enjoy a night off from cooking!
