Plenty Pies

‘Chalices for holding the finest ingredients’ are how Marc and Kate Birch describe their multi award-winning pies. Based in Nailsworth, Plenty Pies has plenty to shout about!

The fillings are as unique as they are generous, the pastry is gloriously hand-made, and with a range of seven different varieties baked each week, that’s plenty of fillings, one for every day of the week…


The idea to create Plenty Pies came about by chance in 2011 after Marc took on a sporting estate in the Cotswolds. Having always had an interest in cooking and eating, Marc set about creating hospitality events that allowed him to hone his culinary skills, earning him recognition in the industry.

To meet the demands of hungry mouths and to make the food go further, Marc had the idea to make pies with the pheasants and other meat from the estate. They were an instant success and also proved popular with the local pubs.

To keep up with demand, Marc decided to concentrate on making pies and expanding his business. A spot at Stroud Farmers’ Market got things going and now Plenty Pies has a presence in a number of local retail outlets.

The fillings for the pies are developed by Marc and are deliciously unique. Best-sellers like Breton Chicken and Shin of Beef (both multi award-winners) sit alongside recipes that include game and vegetarian ingredients. Five of the pies have won prestigious awards.


Everything about the pies – the pastry, the filling, the stock and bases – is created by hand using the finest local ingredients where possible. This painstaking approach and attention to detail means Plenty Pies has nailed its shortcrust pastry (which can be notoriously difficult to get right in shop-bought products). Made from just flour, water, butter, oil and a little organic maize for added crisp, it’s the perfect vessel for the most generous of fillings.

Seriously cheesy golden beet and bean

Winner of a Bronze prize at the British Pie Awards 2018, this vegetarian pie is comfort food at its finest, thanks to its delicious creamy combination of golden beet, spinach and butter beans in a tangy parsley and cheddar cream.


Breton chicken

This best-selling pie was Class Champion in 2014 and gained two more pie awards in 2016 and 2017. The tasty filling contains free range chicken and outdoor reared gammon, along with apples and onions in cider. A grain mustard parsley sauce tops it off. Excellent hot or cold.


Cotswold venison

Cooked in cider with pearl onions, mushrooms, roast garlic and redcurrant jelly, this game pie is finished with a sprinkle of herbs. Rich, sweet and simply delicious to eat.


Wild boar and chorizo

This silver award-winning pie contains roasted red peppers, potato, beans and garlic. A combination of smoked paprika, juniper, molasses, orange zest and a hint of dark chocolate provides a riot of bold flavours.
