THE PUDDING SHOP
Situated just down the road from our store in Upton-upon-Severn, The Pudding Shop is a doorway to another world. We can literally smell the traditional steamed puddings from our shop floor, and it always puts a smile on our faces. That’s nothing new, says owner Justine Owens, as she tells us about the exciting new ranges in store for Christmas…
Mom & Dad had started this lovely business as something to pass the days of retirement – a relaxing little something so they thought. However, they were soon enjoying travelling around the country attending Food Festivals, then came the website and later enjoying bringing customers to their little kitchen shop in Upton to enjoy the pudding experience there.
Sadly 2022 saw the biggest change in the business when we lost our world and head of pudding making – my mom. It turned us upside down and life without her gorgeous smile in the kitchen seemed to be an impossible prospect. But… we knew for Mom’s sake puddings must go on.
So, I took the full helm and supported continually by my dad and my partner we are loving taking this fabulous traditional little pudding shop from strength to strength.
We are excited to develop the brand and the flavours, although our traditional puddings are still the most popular. We try to develop flavours in line with trends but most people go back to jam, lemon, ginger, syrup and spotted dick. We’ve also got a big range of gluten free puddings, including our famous Christmas puddings.
We meet all age ranges but without fail, when customers come into our shop, they have a smile on their face. They often say ‘this reminds me of being in my nan’s house’ or ‘my mum told me about steamed puddings’. The younger generations seem to want to carry on this story and tradition of puddings that they’ve been told about.
This Christmas you can see us on TV! We made it to the finals of Aldi’s Next Big Thing, scheduled to be aired on 11th December. In the meantime, take a look at one of the Christmas Puddings from our range…
