Two Farmers
A shared passion for the Herefordshire countryside and a business plan drawn up in a local pub is what led these two farmers to grow their award-winning crisps, served up in the UK’s first compostable crisp packet.
Two Farmers was launched when farmers Mark Green and Sean Mason got together one night in a local pub. They wanted to celebrate the Herefordshire countryside where they grew award-winning potatoes by doing something exciting and new that would place the county of Herefordshire on the UK’s foodie map.
For years, Mark had dreamed of making crisps from his own potatoes, while Sean’s day job as a potato merchant inspired him to protect the countryside around him. With this meeting of the minds, the idea was born to produce gourmet crisps that celebrated the county of Herefordshire and that would be launched in the UK’s first 100% compostable crisp packet.
To achieve the required quality of flavour and crispness to create these award-winning gourmet snacks, only the finest potatoes make their way into the Two Farmers crisp packets. These are a mixture of Lady Claire, Lady Rosetta and Taurus potatoes, grown for their excellent fry colour and high quality. The potatoes are graded on the farm to keep food miles down.
In a bid to be as sustainable, Sean and Mark do most of the work on the farm. From the growing to the harvesting, to the storing, cooking and packing, it is all done in-house and using renewable energy where possible. This means the two farmers can also keep control of the whole crisp making process at every stage to ensure customers receive the best product while also giving back to the sacred environment they work and live in.
The six flavours of crisps that Mark and Sean created have been designed to showcase the best of what the county of Herefordshire has to offer. Most of the ingredients are grown by the two farmers themselves on the farm or sourced locally if not. Here’s a taste of what you can find in the Two Farmers crisp packets:
